Abstract

A problem in Alcestis is the contradiction about where she was married. A suggestion, based on ancient Jewish sources, is that there were actually two ceremonies: the first was an engagement ceremony held at her paternal and the second was a wedding ceremony, held when she arrived at her husband's home.
