Hesiod’s Ate Again
Main Article Content
Abstract
The paper answers W.J. Verdenius' objections to my claim that atē in the meaning of ‘ruin’ is not only post-Homeric but post-Hesiodic as well. I base my claim on a close analysis of all the aorist participles in Works and Days showing that there is no instance of a coincidental/modal aorist participle which would correspond to the case of WD 215-216 on which Verdenius bases his claim.
