A New Manuscript Witness for the Tetrasticon autenticum de singulis mensibus
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper discusses an hitherto unnoticed copy of the Tetrasticon authenticum de singulis mensibus (Anthologia Larina 395 [Riese], 391 [Shackleton-Bailey]) and the unusual manuscript context in which it is found, that is, a late tenth-century Sacramentary from the Abbey of Echternach. The presence of such a “pagan” poem in an utterly Christian liturgical compendium reflects the complexity of late Carolingian attitudes towards pagan scholarship and culture.
