Cassius Dio on the Revolt of Bar Kokhba

Abstract

This paper assesses the value of Cassius Dio’s description of the Bar Kokhba revolt in the abbreviated form available.  Dio’s brief account clearly brings out the distinctive nature of this war as compared with various other provincial revolts in the first and second centuries.  This reinforces the impression that this is a reliable source of information.
